FDA versus USDA

While food safety is requirement for all food facilities or establishments that sell food, understanding food safety regulations is a key in sustaining your business and complying with both federal and state requirements.

This document may be helpful in understanding the difference between the FDA and USDA.

There are many different factors that can influence what federal, state or local agency has jurisdiction over a specific food product. Composition, manufacturing operations and location, distribution, and sales outlets can have some bearing over which agency takes regulatory responsibility for a food product.
